What to know before submitting a "Get Playlisted" campaign

Updated over a week ago

The "Get Playlisted" playbook is a quick way to pitch highly-targeted, user-generated playlists on Spotify to impact streams + improve your chances of catching the Spotify algorithm.

When to use it βœ…

You want to get your song in front of passive listeners - primarily to drive streams and influence the Spotify algorithm to trigger algorithmic playlists like Discover Weekly and Release Radar.

When not to use it ❌

If you want to drive real fanbase growth and build a touring fanbase, a more active marketing tool - such as running ads using "Increase Music Streams" is a better bet.

User-generated Spotify playlists are great to drive streams and influence the algorithm in the short term, but they won't make as much impact on Spotify followers or real fanbase growth. Most listeners on user-generated Spotify playlists are listening *passively* - hitting shuffle or listening in the car - vs. listening actively

Choosing a Song

When choosing what song to pitch, you ideally want to choose a song that has statistically resonated with listeners. This is where calculating the save rate will be helpful. The save rate is a metric that indicates how much your song resonates with listeners.

How to Calculate the Save Rate

The save rate is calculated by dividing the number of saves by the number of listeners for each song. A higher save rate suggests that listeners are more likely to save the song to their library, indicating a strong connection with the song. For example, If your song has been saved 500 times across 1,000 listeners, the save rate would be 50%.

Why is Save Rate Important?

A higher save rate indicates that a song is particularly appealing with your fans. When pitching to user-generated playlists, choosing a song with a high save rate can increase the likelihood of it being added, as it shows that the song is already popular and engaging among listeners.

The Symphony Advantage

Symphony's playlist curation team listens to each song submitted through the system to pitch to our extensive Spotify playlist network - based on the genre of your song and the general sound, we'll try to find the most effective playlists that will help grow streams.

Every month, the Symphony team actively vets playlists by removing the lowest-performing playlists from our network.

Compared to playlisting on other platforms, Symphony can't guarantee you'll get a specific number of streams from playlists, but we can guarantee your song will be on playlists with real listeners and real engagement.
